Hi, I’m Kate! I’m a stay-at-home mom to two kids and married to a wonderful husband. I created this blog because in our family’s search to get rid of the nasty chemicals in our house, I’ve actually learned a tiny bit and I’d like to have a way to pass along that information.
We started going down a “natural products” path when I was pregnant with my first child. My husband didn’t want me inhaling all the fumes from the cleaning products we used and he didn’t want to breathe them either. I will have to admit to you that during this time our shower didn’t get cleaned for 4 or 5 months. (Which is a long time even for me!) That got me to thinking and researching though, and it wasn’t long after that I discovered the power of some vinegar and baking soda.
After our daughter was born, we didn’t want her to be exposed to crazy chemicals either and I have just kept researching and trying new things, one step or one product at a time. Four years later, I am a certified crunchy momma. (“Crunchy” as in liking to use natural products and trying to be environmentally conscious. Not crunchy like smelling bad or like snow sounds when you walk on it. At least I hope I don’t smell bad!)
It also happens that a lot of the natural do-it-yourself products are much cheaper, and since, until recently, my husband has been in school since I met him, I have had to learn how to strech a dime. I like being frugal and finding new ways to be frugal too.
Since I really like reading about, researching about, and trying new things, I thought that perhaps I could pass along the different ways we have replaced chemical laden products with more natural ones (and hopefully saved a little money in the process).
I plan to post on the blog every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday and if I get real crazy, maybe more. I do hope this place will be a resource so that way when I share about the natural changes we are making (because somehow it keeps coming up in conversation that I make my own deodorant) I have a place to send people so they can benefit from the research and trial and error I have already done.
If you have any questions, want to tell me about a crunchy idea you’ve implemented in your house, or just want to say hi, feel free to email me.
